A rare opportunity to gain a well rounded GP training including the use of many practical skills in a rural community setting. Halesworth is an attractive market town ten miles from the seaside resort of Southwold on Suffolk’s heritage coast. Our practice area also covers many villages set in beautiful countryside. We have eight partners, four women and four men and our modern premises are adjacent to the community hospital which has fourteen GP beds and outpatients. A Minor Injuries Unit is based within the surgery. Trainees are very welcome to attend weekly clinical and business meetings and, by arrangement, specialist outpatient clinics in the community hospital.

Our main aim is to provide a high standard of primary care. We have a mixed, but predominantly elderly population and have an integrated approach with the district nursing team to care for people at home including end of life care. We have a team of practice nurses including a Nurse Practitioner to staff the Minor Injuries Unit and triage urgent patient requests on the day. We also have a nurse co-ordinator and cancer support nurse to help us strengthen links between primary and secondary care.

We are involved with teaching medical students from London and the University of East Anglia. We have one experienced trainer and two associate trainers, but there is a multidisciplinary approach to learning. We aim to base your training around your personalised educational requirements.
